Understudy

Understudy

Description

Players start a scene as though it’s from a serious play. The Director shouts “understudy”, and another player takes over one of the roles as an enthusiastic understudy. They shout “understudy” again and another player comes in.

Teaching Purpose

Playing role of enthusiastic understudy, in this you are spotting games/emotion that the actors may not be aware of. Understudies then escalate this behaviour/emotions, and when the actors come back on stage they perform as the understudies would.
