Liz Joynt Sandberg from Chicago is BACK at Hoopla!
Liz is one of Phoebe from Hoopla’s favourite ever teachers and it’s a honour to have Liz back again this year teaching a series of workshops.
Liz is a comedy writer, performer, director, and educator based in Chicago. She regularly performs with Second City, iO and Annoyance Theatre.
She is the head of Comedy Arts at Depaul University. She serves as the Associate Director of Learning for Second City Works, where she teaches clients like Harvard Business School, Thrive Global, Google, Microsoft, Swing Left, Indivisible, and others to leverage an improvisational mindset to solve real world problems.
She’s toured nationally and internationally as a comedic performer and educator, and has written for The Second City Network, The Huffington Post, Rebellious Magazine, and others.
Her essay “Hummingbird” appears in the anthology Listen to Your Mother (Putnam 2015).
She serves on the faculty of Columbia College and The Second City Training Center and performs regularly with The Best of Second City, iO Chicago (Deltones, The Musical Armando, Riff), The Improvised Sondheim Project, The Revival Theater, The Annoyance, and others.

You may have enjoyed a rapid acceleration when first starting improv, but may find yourself hitting a plateu when performing regularly after courses. This workshop looks at kind ways to help you enjoy ongoing regular practice, look after others on your journey, enjoy long-term integrity as an artist, and form healthy habits that help you climb The Mountain of Awesome step by step while remembering to enjoy the view on the way!

How to claim your agency and build community as an improviser on stage. An amazing workshop where what we need in the scene is communicated there and then with honesty on stage while preserving joyful spontaneity. One of the most helpful workshops we ever did and those who attended last year are still talking about it, so we booked it in for more!

Who are these workshops suitable for?
Intermediate - Advanced improvisers, depending on the workshop. Ideally for the Intermediate workshops you will have completed at least our Level 3 Scenes Course. Ideally for the Advanced workshops you will have completed at least our Level 4 Long-Form Course plus have some performing experience.
Do you offer discounts?
