the improviser’s way course
A 12 week course with two main shows PLUS multiple other mini-shows throughout the course, and ongoing support and mentoring throughout.
Our ULTIMATE improv course! This is beyond a course, this is to support your entire improv career!
Based on Katy Schutte’s new book The Improviser’s Way: A Longform workbook. A copy of the book is included as part of the course!
A course and workbook for longform improvisers at any level. Follow the twelve-week programme on your own or with your team. Become a better improviser and a better person!
Develop a work ethic for your craft and find ways to cope with bad gigs, jealousy, fear of missing out and your inner critic. Katy Schutte’s course and book is full of exercises, essays, techniques and advice for learning faster and becoming (more) amazing at improvisation.
We’ll be exploring a variety of different styles. We don’t believe in one philosophy of improv; each one is valuable and you can pick and choose from what you learn to discover your improv superpowers and continue to have the best time on stage (or wherever you improvise).
Katy will be providing more side coaching in scenes and personal development than normal. You’ll also be completing exercises in the book between each workshop, so you can grow creatively as an improviser and go deeper than any other improv course.
Each workshop also has a bonus half an hour at the end to discuss recent shows, discuss upcoming gig opportunities, and for Katy to provide mentoring and general improv and acting career help.
The course is also longer than our usual 8 week courses so you have a chance to perform multiple times and learn and grow as an improviser.
The course will go beyond improv and also help you grow creatively as a person.
People on this course will be given priority at performing at our theatre, so it will be possible to perform mini-shows each week and constantly evolve as an improviser by learning in a live performance environment.
If you are serious about becoming the best improviser you can be, this is the course for you! It’s like a drama school, for improv.

What is the structure of each workshop?
Katy will be catching up with you as individuals, finding out about shows you have performed in recently and helping you with where you are at as an improviser. We’ll then be running fun warm ups and then exploring a different theme each week and developing different shows. The bonus half an hour at the end is to provide mentoring and extra help.
What is the structure of the course?

How many shows are there?
Two main shows plus multiple mini-shows throughout the course.
When are the mini-shows?
These are arranged week by week in the workshop for the weeks ahead. We are giving this course priority over our improv theatre bookings so can provide people on the course with all the show space and development they need.
Who is this suitable for?
People with previous long-form improv course who want to become the best improviser they can be.
How much improv or acting should I have done before doing this course?

What’s the class size?
The group size is going to be limited to 16 people - small enough that you get lots and lots of practice and stage time, but big enough that there’s still a lively atmosphere in the workshop. It’ll be fun as we get to know each other and build a team together.
Where are the shows?
The shows takes place at our improv comedy club, at The Miller, 96 Snowsfields Road, London Bridge, SE1 3SS.
