We work with a number of Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic teachers across our public improv classes, corporate training, general shows and public jams. To help further inspire future generations of improvisers we will are also interested in recruiting additional teachers.

Monica Gaga
Monica is one of Hoopla’s main teachers and teaches across all levels at Hoopla.
She is co-producer of Hoopla and Do the Right Scene’s Special Delivery show for BAME improvisers, and teacher at Hoopla and Do the Right Scene’s Crash Landing workshop for BAME improvisers.
Monica is also Hoopla’s main host for our weekend main-stage shows for professional improv groups, host of our pre-party nights for up and coming new acts, and also regularly hosts our jams for new improvisers.
Monica performs improv in Do The Right Scene, Derek’s Mojo, Tightrope, The Yes Queens, The Playground, The Comedy Store Players and in shows across the London improv scene.
She has also recently appeared in comedy sketches for BBC Three as well as appearing on ITVBe, London Live, BBC History, BBC Radio London, Global Pillage and more.
She trained in Community Theatre at East 15 Acting School.
Mandeep Singh
Mandeep is one of Hoopla’s core teachers and teaches across all of our levels in venues across London.
He also regularly hosts our jams, helping new up and coming improvisers build up experience on stage, and regularly hosts Hoopla main-stage nights.
Mandeep performs in Hoopla house teams Michelle and Gamez, and previously performed in Hoopla house team Story Kitchen.
He is also a writer and performer in Hoopla’s online comedy team, as well as a writer and performer in sketch group Two Dollar Sock Club.
Athena Kugblenu
Athena is co-founder and co-producer of Hoopla and Do the Right Scene’s Special Delivery show for Black and Asian improvisers, and teacher at Hoopla and Do the Right Scene’s Crash Landing workshop.
Athena is a BBC New Comedy Award Finalist and nominee for the 99 Club Female Comedians’ Bursary. She’s a member of the BBC Comedy Room 2019/20 and was awarded the BBC Felix Dexter Bursary for up-and-coming comedy writers in 2020.
She has written for Radio 4’s News Quiz, Newsjack, The Now Show and is a lead writer for multi cultural sketch show Sketchtopia.
Tai Campbell
Tai is co-producer and co-founder of Do the Right Scene’s Special Delivery, Hoopla’s regular show for Black and Asian actors, comedians and improvisers.
He also teaches Do the Right Scene’s and Hoopla’s Crash Landing workshop, supporting people onto the stage for the first time.
Tai also teaches many of Hoopla’s corporate training workshops.
Tai is a writer, director, editor, comedian and celebrity impressionist.
He is a winner of BBC’s Comedy Writer’s Room with credits on BBC One, BBC Three and Vice.
Tai recently wrote, directed and starred in a number of sketches for BBC3 Comedy, achieving millions of views online.
Edgar Fernando
Edgar is the co-founder of Hoopla, setting up Hoopla’s shows and workshops in Balham back in 2006!
He created Hoopla’s warm welcoming teaching style and helped set up Hoopla’s 1st improv theatre, show teams, courses structures, teacher training and festival runs.
For a couple of years he was even running Hoopla workshops in Ibiza!
Edgar has taught across all levels at Hoopla and delivered corporate training.
After moving away from London to start a family Edgar is now running Hoopla’s drop-in workshops in Manchester.
He also works as a criminal defense lawyer and DJ.

Hoopla are interested in recruiting additional Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic teachers.
Teachers will be recruited from a number of different places:
- General teacher recruitment.
- The Do The Right Scene Special Delivery shows.
- The Do The Right Scene Crash Landing workshops.
- From across Hoopla’s regular shows and house teams.
- From contacts built up from the Do the Right Scene team and by our Producer.
