We usually start with some fun and friendly warm-ups, then specific exercises on certain topics, and then lots of time to play and have some fun improvising scenes and sketches together in a group. The emphasis is on having fun and enjoying yourself!
All topics are based on experience built up over six years of teaching improv. They are available as either stand alone topics or used in combination and adjusted to the requirements of the group. Topics include:
Core Improv Skills: Great for people new to improv or those looking to improve the core skills. Core skills like listening, offering and accepting, spontaneity, being obvious, and building platforms. All designed to get the group working together to improvise scenes and stories.
Games: Lots of fun improvisation games, especially good for people new to improv.
Scenes: Specialist workshop concentrating on scene structure and improvising captivating scenes and sketches from scratch.
Narrative: How to improvise captivating stories on the spot from nothing. Especially useful for writers or anyone else interested in storytelling.
Character: How to find a character immediately and play more characters than you ever thought possible.
Status: How to act low status, high status, play with status transactions and use status in scenes.
Game of the Scene: How to spot the game going on between two interacting characters and escalate it. Excellent technique for creating sketch comedy style improvisation.
Solo Improvisation: Particularly useful for stand-ups, comperes and people making presentations.
Commedia Dell’Arte: Using and adapting medieval commedia dell’arte characters in modern improvisation.
Platforms: How to build stories and scenes from nothing. Laying the foundations for your scene.
Improv Performance Training: Forming an improv group to perform improvised theatre and comedy in front of a live audience.
