The performance training course has now finished, the details below are for information only. There should be another one in the Autumn after Edinburgh.

Spring into Summer......with your first show!

What: Five performance training workshops, followed by two shows and help for the future.

When: Workshops are 7:30pm - 9:30pm every Monday for five weeks, starting Monday 20th April. Show dates will be confired when the course starts, but will most likely be Sunday 24th May and Monday 25th May.

Cost: £90, which works out at just £15 per workshop/show. You can pay by cash or cheque (payable to Hoopla) all in one or in a couple of instalments.

Where: Workshops at The Balham Community Centre, 91 Bedford Hill, Balham, SW12 9HE. Shows at The Bedford, 77 Bedford Hill Balham, SW12 9HD.

This is a chance to go from drop-in to on-stage with a performance course to take you to your first ever impro show. Over a period of 5 weeks you’ll be learning some great performance games and techniques and getting to know a friendly group of fellow actors. Gently helped along by two fun directors (Steve and Ed) you’ll be bouncing on stage at the end to share your love of impro in front of a buzzing audience.

We think performing is the most fun you can have with your pants on, and can’t wait to share this with you.

The Practice Sessions

There will be a series of five practice sessions on Mondays starting Monday 20th April at The Balham Community Centre, 91 Bedford Hill, Balham. This will be a regular session, starting 7:30pm, with the same group of people instead of a drop-in, so you get the lovely feeling of the team progressing each week, getting to know each other and building up a relationship with your team-mates and the directors. As a committed group you’ll be helping each other to take yourselves to your first ever impro show.

The group size is going to be limited to 12 people - small enough that you get lots and lots of practice and stage time, but big enough that there’s still a lively atmosphere in the workshop. It’ll be fun as we get to know each other a bit more and build a team together.

The focus is going to be on performing - so we’ll be doing some fun warm ups, some impro exercises and then lots of performance style games with lots of hints and tips from us. We’ll be helping and encouraging you all the way to your first show.

The Shows

We’ll be doing two separate shows at The Bedford - there will be 6 people acting in each show so they don’t get overcrowded. You won’t have to worry about how much you are on stage, and can concentrate on enjoying yourself. We’ll work out who is in what show once the practices start, and will also be confirming the show dates then to make sure everyone can make it. This also gives you the chance to do front of house and have fun watching a show.

This is your chance to invite all your friends and family and share your love of impro. After the show you can spread the good cheer and booze it up with them and your fellow actors at the bar like a travelling bunch of drunken jesters.

Cost

The cost is £90, which works out at only £15 per workshop/show. You can pay by cash or cheque (payable to Hoopla) all in one or in a couple of instalments. This includes workshop room hire, show room hire, audience prizes and props, biscuits, and two lovely directors. You don’t have to worry about anything, just come along and enjoy yourself.

After the Shows

Celebrate!
After the om-pah om-pah feeling of having done a show we’ll have an informal chat/meeting about some other things that might be helpful for the future - show formats, directing, running orders, promoting, rehearsals and other performance games.
Overall we hope to give you everything you need to get out into the world of performing for yourself, and will help kick-start you into whatever you want to do. We’ve always been massive fans of action, and believe the best way to learn is just to jump in there and start doing it.
